I've wanted to build a nixie tube clock for quite a while. I ran across pictures of one on the internet several years ago and have been planning my own ever since. A few weeks ago I found a set of six Soviet-made IN-14 tubes that had been salvaged from old equipment and were being sold for only $34, after shipping from Ukraine. When I first started planning this project they were selling for up to $100 for a similar set, so I jumped at the chance. Read more

I finally replaced my old laptop and removed Windows 8.1 to install Arch Linux. Along the way I learned how to install UEFI boot loaders for linux and had a few minor issues with the Intel HDA/ALC3234 sound card and backlight brightness buttons, but I was able to resolve them. Read more

After spammers started submitting comments to my old wordpress site I decided I had had enough. I didn't like the way it handled pages, especially when trying to make a project-oriented blog. It's a nice CMS in theory but quickly becomes annoying to manage or edit. I found a template and started working on a new site. Read more
